How It All Began...
On April 1, 2011, Joe Le, 20, went hiking with a friend in the San Gabriel Mountains, set on conquering the Bridge to Nowhere. During this hike, Joe had lost his grip on a rope crossing and was swept away by the river. With the help of many volunteers, Joe Le was recovered on the second day of searching and allowed to be put to rest. Without the help of the volunteers that unfortunate weekend, Joe Le would not have been found. With this, Victoria Le (Joe's sister) wanted to do something on behalf of Joe in order to give back to the community that had once dedicated so much time and effort into locating our beloved Joe Le. And so was born the G.I. Joe Search and Rescue Team.
– the Joe Le Foundation.
Why We Are Here....
Joe Le once said, “In order to compensate for the twisted train wreck writhing beneath my scalp, I strive towards simplicity in my day to day life, allowing it to revolve around two elements: Helping those I can, and finding reasons to smile - no matter how small." The G.I. Joe Search and Rescue team is here to provide volunteer assistance to families of missing loved onces. Having been through the excruciating pain of losing Joe Le, we understand how other families caught in similar situations must feel. No one deserves to feel and endure this pain.
